How do I keep cats off my rocking chairs?

Does a discipline can work on cats? Never had an indoor cat. Discipline can is just an empty soda can with several pennies inside with hole taped over. Used to shake at pet when doing something wrong and saying no firmly. If you got your cat afraid of the can you can sit it on the rocker and when he jumps up there it would fall off and scare him,??

Maybe spread pinecones?
They won't like the roughness and will avoid the uneven surface.

Spray bottle that will shoot a fast stream. Squirt the cats when they get on it. After a few encounters, they should stop.

  I have heard that to spray them but I can't get close enough to do it. They run at the first noise. I'm allergic to cats and can't enjoy my rockers. Thanks so much.

If you're truly allergic to cats, they should not be in your home or yard area. Their dander can cause significant allergic reactions.
You can try wiping your furniture with Rue leaves or, if it won't harm the finish, wipe essential oil of Rue on the wooden sections.

  I am very allergic. They are strays but they get on my porch and rockers. I have NO dogs all my neighbors have dogs and they tell me they come here cause no dog to run cat off. I'm at my Witt's end. Thanks for ur response.

  Hi, Kathy,
  If the cats are strays, report them as such to animal control. They will reproduce en masse, causing you more aggravation and health issues. You have a legal right to peaceable enjoyment of your property, which is being denied to you by these stray cats.
  If you don't get immediate satisfaction, try tying sacks of mothballs onto your furniture, at least until the cats start avoiding your furniture. I'd be tempted to place some in the lawn, as well.
  Note that planting large quantities of Rosemary is also somewhat effective.

  Choose the rooms in your house where you spend the most time. Close the doors to those rooms to prevent the cats from dropping dander there. Feed the cats in a place far from your chosen rooms. Never allow a cat to snuggle near your face. My best friend is a feral cat, Balderdash. He is not allowed in my bedroom, and when I take him on a very long trip, he is in a pet carrier two rows away from my driving space. As soon as we arrive, he is allowed in all but my bedroom and other dander free areas. .
