How do I make a dormer bed canopy?

The head of my bed is under a dormer ceiling, it slopes up toward foot of bed. At about the knee area of the bed, the ceiling turns from 7ft to 100% vertical up to cathedral height (dormer ceiling starts at wall 4 ft high at head of bed). Id like to hang curtains at the ceiling transition to help block night light coming in 5 skylights without it looking strange. Thought I might make it look like a canopy... Any ideas?

Can you use a Dowling rod fixed into cup hooks at the top over knee area and at the bottom above head of the bed. Then drape a long piece over the top and down on the top dowel and behind the bed head dowel.
