Radishes are beautiful, yummy, useful and nutritious. They grow fast and don't take up a lot of room in the vegetable garden.

Radishes don't take a ton of room to grow, so growing them in containers is very doable. Even a 12 inch pot can grow 5 or 6 nice radishes.

Radish greens are edible raw or cooked. They add nutrition and flavor to meals. Eating them reduces waste too!

Radishes grow quickly so they are a great crop to grow with children too. They also come in many bright colors and varieties.

The seeds can be broadcast on top of the soil and covered with a light layer of soil. Check out the blog post to find out more about growing times, how long they take to grow and what condidtions they need.

Then you'll have a wonderful container of radishes in just a few short weeks.

Radishes are crisp and spicy. You can even cook them in a bit of bacon fat and herbs or roast them in the oven.

To harvest radishes from your containers, just wait until their shoulders are peeking up above the soil line. Next, grab them firmly by all of the greens on top and gently pull. It's easiest to harvest radishes when the soil is moist like just after a rain.

The warmer the weather, the spicier the radishes will taste, so if you want them to be milder, harvest them when it's still cool outside. If you plant them in the fall and let a light frost get them, they taste sweeter.

Different varieties also have different heat levels. So find the kind you like best. French breakfast radishes like these are generally very mild.

Radishes can also be replanted in your container after you harvest them, so you could continue growing crop after crop in your small container and end up with radishes contually throughout the cool months. They are a great performer. If you are new to gardening and need beginning instructions to growing food, check this out.
