I have to say that I really enjoy a well wrapped present. I put a lot of thought into my gift wrapping supplies. I mean, if you spend time picking the perfect gift, shouldn’t it be presented in an equally thoughtful way?! Gifts tags...finding the right color...right theme...do you really need a whole package, when you only want one out of it?! In my quest for the perfect tags, I decided to try to make my own.

Wooden shapes! Inexpensive and a variety of shapes. No hole for a ribbon or string to attach them though. So, grab a drill, a scrap piece of wood, and a small drill bit.

Placing the shape on a scrap block of wood, allows you to drill through without damaging anything! Here you can see where the drill bit hit the scrap wood.

Chalkboard paint, not to be confused with chalk paint! It comes in a variety of colors, and you can even get it in a spray! Making this even faster and easier.

Pick your color, and paint your pieces.

Just a sponge brush will work, or any craft paint brush. Allow to dry, and apply a second coat. Make sure you paint both sides, and all around the edges. If you get paint in the hole, a toothpick will poke it right out for you.

I used a toothpick to clear the paint from the holes, and grabbed a paint pen.

I was in a hurry and could only find my gold paint pen. Gold worked really well on the leaf!

Not as well on the purple star...I knew I should have used white! Good thing the other side can be used as well. 😉

Here are some I made for Christmas time! The possibilities are almost limitless. Regular chalk may not write on these as nicely as you would like, but a chalk pen works perfectly!! Make sure the hole you drill is big enough for what ever ribbon/yarn/thread you plan to use. Embroidery thread is perfect as well as thin ribbon.
