How do you get the smell out of towels that you forgot in the wash machine to long?

I have heard that rewashing with detergent and a cup of vinegar will do the trick.
Rinse again with warm water and vinegar.
I would wash them a few times with vinegar added to the water. Let them soak for awhile during each cycle.
Add 20 Mule Team Borax with your detergent. Use distilled white vinegar in rinse cycle. Launder on extended cycle. Dry completely, avoiding fabric softener.
Vinegar & Hot water usually works for me the 1st time. (1 cup).
