How to Quickly Make Your Baseboards Look Better

Have your baseboards taken a beating? Ours sure have. We have lived in our house for 15 years and have had several pets over that time along with babies to now pre-teen boys. Our baseboards have had several run-ins with the Cozy Coup, large dog bones, and several toys. The baseboards are pretty scratched up and in desperate need of an update. I know they need to be refinished and painted, but until then, I wanted to find a temporary solution.

The first thing I did was wipe down the scratched up baseboards with an all-purpose cleaner. You can also use a store-bought wood cleaner, or a mix of water and gentle soap.

You'll notice after just doing this step your baseboards will look so much better!

Next, I got one of those paint markers to touch up the scratches.

Head over to my post on how to quickly fix up your baseboards to get all of the details about how I applied the paint and what I did next.

Look at the difference! You can see where I applied the paint and where I didn't.

It's not flawless, but this is a great substitute until you are ready to spend the time and money re-doing your baseboards.

Suggested materials:
  • Oil-based paint markers
  • All-purpose cleaner

When we were getting our house ready to sell, I cleaned and repainted my baseboards all through the house. It was long and tedious. Now I wish that I had just used a paint pen where I had chips and dents. It would have resulted in looking the same as painting everything. Great job and great suggestion!
