I had it in an East location but moved it four years ago to a west area. It gets afternoon sun. What am I doing wrong?

Do you know what type of hydrangea you have? Given your location, it is quite possible you have a hydrangea that is not fully hardy for your area and the buds are freezing. Also, if you are pruning it, you may be doing so at the wrong time. Usually hydrangeas are happier with morning sun and afternoon shade, but there are types that will take full sun in the northern parts of their range.

  @Douglas Hunt my hydrangeas bush grew lush but leaves had black spots and this year..not one bloom either :(

  @Pamela Scruggs You may be able to blame the lack of blooms you had on last winter. The leaf issue sounds like it could be Cercospora leaf spot. See: http://www.uaex.edu/publications/pdf/FSA-7570.pdf

  Douglas THAT WAS IT EXACTLY..tks for the link...I got about 3 little tired blooms in early Nov..I'm wishing for a better showing next year if we don't have another "snow-apocalypse" in Atlanta.

I live in Michigan and last winter was rough, but I'm not sure the type I have....I haven't pruned it in a while and the bush is a good size. I'd be more inclined to prune it in the Fall. It gets more sun in the afternoon,ie,west exposure. Would adding coffee grounds around the base of the plant help? I heR they like acidic soil.

  @Nancy Gabrys Fall is not generally a good time to prune any type of hydrangea. They should either be pruned right after they bloom, if they are a type that blooms on old wood, or in late winter/early spring if they bloom on new. For more guidance on this see: http://www.finegardening.com/pruning-hydrangeas It certainly won't hurt to put coffee grounds around them.

I have no idea the type of Hydrangea I have, but mine did not bloom this summer either! It has bloomed every other year! I attribute it to the harsh winter! It is a stunning plant but no blooms. Neither did my variegated Lacecap Hydrangea! (??)
