Farmhouse Springtime Decor
I decorated my blanket ladder for Christmas and after taking down all of the Christmas decor, with just blankets folded on the ladder, it looked a little bland. I figured it was time to dress it up for spring. You can see more of my crafts and creations here.
I began this project with a scrap of styrofoam. The piece I chose was about 5" x 6" x 2". The size is not important except you do not want something too big or too small. Think about the amount of flowers you want to use and make sure you don't have too much styrofoam to have to cover or hide and yet you need to have enough to hold the flowers you want to use.
I began by threading a wire through my piece of styrofoam as shown above.
Before pulling that wire tight, you need to put something between the styrofoam and the wire or the wire will cut right through the foam. A bargain way to do this is to just take a half of a pipe cleaner and bending it back and forth like I did in the photo above. I do this on both sides of the foam.
Using that same wire, I attached the block of foam to my blanket ladder. This is something you could make and attach to all kinds of different props or pieces of furniture to add a pop of Spring color.
For the decoration to drape up and down, I began with a couple of pieces of trailing ivy.
Add a sign to the top of the ladder to begin to add a bit of Spring decor to the ladder.
I continued to add ivy (you can use any trailing silk vines) with tendrils trailing across some of the steps on the ladder.
If you saw my Springtime Tablescape last year, you will know I used artificial wisteria...LOTS of it. I am still trying to use it in projects and this was perfect pairing. I wanted to fill some of the length of the ladder so trailing wisteria and long stems of bells of Ireland begin to achieve the length I am trying for.
Time to fill in the middle of my arrangement with a variety of artificial flowers.
Although my home is more coastal style, a my chippy painted ladder makes the perfect farmhouse springtime decor when dressed with colorful florals and a cheerful Mason jar sign.
