How can I use old family correspondence ?

I have hundreds of letters and documents from 1927 and on any ideas for decorating not sure what I want to do with them. Suggestions? What would you do

  • Shadow box them! I have stuff going back to the late 1800's but can't read half of it as it is in various European languages, none of which I read, write or speak. Mine are in boxes and I have no idea what to do with them either. Since I have no heirs, I might just give away to anyone that wants them.

    • Thanks! Will add to my list of possibilities. I have boxes and boxes of stuff. I couldn't bring myself to toss in the recycle bins when I had to clean out my parents home after they passed. My brother on the other hand, tossed valuable items into a 30 yard refuse bin with reckless abandon. I rescued a few things but just had to say a silent prayer and sorry to my dead relatives for his total ignorance and refusal to at least try to sell or donate the items.

You could make a collage and frame it.

  • Oh my goodness! You have the genealogists dream. Unfortunately it can also seem a white elephant of a treasure, storing, keeping safe, etc. The first thing I might do is scan every document. That may seem daunting, but it makes it easier to get the records into the hands of those who appreciate it. You could also take those letters and put them into books using self publishing/print on demand services like blurb.com. After digitizing your collection, I suggest you look up archival storage of documents and follow the protocols for storage.

  • Could I decoupage them without damage.
