150 Year Old Pine Table
I bought this round from a man who was selling some firewood in Santa Cruz county. When I came across this piece, I felt that it was too beautiful and unique to be wasted on firewood so I decided to buy it for $20 and turn it into a coffee table. I counted the rings on it, 157. I sanded it using 60,120,300,400,600 sand paper then put 4 coats of oil bases polyurethane. I'm very pleased with the way it turned out, way better than a couple logs of firewood!
Here's a photo of the pine round plus some of the materials used to work on it. (polyurethane, danish oil (did not end up using it), mask for sanding, and wood glue)
First step was that I sealed the cracks to strengthen the core.
After the major cracks were sealed, I then applied the first coat of polyurethane.
After the polyurethane dried, I screwed in some legs and WALAH! A beautiful new coffee table comes to life. It looks great.

Yes, definitely will make my own table out of one of a pine tree slab from one of the 75 pine trees that Hurricane Michael took down in our yard. Slab still on my enclosed back porch and was waiting for this great "how to" idea. Thank you!
