How can lilies flower?

I have a Farmers Catalog that has lollypop lilies they promise that if planted this spring they will flower this summer. I planted my Daisey's bulbs this past fall so that they would bloom this spring or summer. How can they promise that the lollypop blubs will flower this summer? Or is it bogus?

Different flower bulbs need to be planted at different times. Some need to over-winter to bloom the following year. This might help: https://smartpots.com/the-5-best-bulbs-to-plant-in-spring-for-summer-blooms/

I'm not sure what lollypop lilies are, but generally: bulbs that need a cold period are planted in the fall, and are perennial; non-hardy bulbs could bloom the first year if planted in the spring, but would die over the first winter. The other possibility is a hardy bulb that is pre-chilled to allow it to bloom the first summer.

There are bulbs & tubers that are planted in Spring to produce flowers thru summer into fall Lilies both Asiatic(Lollypop are Asiatic Lilies) & Oriental,Crocosmia,Freesia & Hardy Begonias are just a few. Daisies are not bulbs. There are many varieties of Daisies none are bulbs, they are grown usually by seed or just transplanted as root grown in pots and many are Perennial meaning they come back every year for many years. do you still have papers that came with the plant you planted last fall so you can check what it is?

  • If you purchase from a reputable source and follow their directions, the plants will perform as stated. Any legitimate business will refund your money or send you new plants if you are not satisfied. Hence, know your source if purchasing from a catalog or on line. About 5 years ago my girlfriend purchased dahlia tubers. Instructions said that not to expect much the first year, but subsequent years they would get bigger and bigger if cared for properly. They came up the first year and every subsequent year they are more spectacular.
