White vinegar and table salt works well, but it will kill anything surrounding the weeds.

We use vinegar and liquid soap. Be warned that grass will not grow in its place

  • There are hundreds of "recipes" out there. Here is what I use. Boiling water. Epsom salt followed by boiling water. White vinegar. Easy, quick, simple, effective. No mixing, no measuring, no fuss and environmentally friendly. Just be careful using vinegar as it will kill anything it comes into contact with. Depending how much is used, it can take a bit of time for the ground to recover.

We have used this one for years to edge the yard and take out weeds from the driveway and non grassy areas. As with the above it will kill just about everything so be careful what you spray. Mix in a large bucket 1 gallon of white vinegar, 2 cups Epsom salts and 1/4 cup "blue" Dawn dish soap. Place into your yard sprayer or just spray bottles and go to town! We use a spray bottle and then store the rest in the vinegar jug.
