How do I prep a wall that has been painted over wallpaper?

When I began stripping wallpaper off a wall, I discovered the wall has wallpaper that has been painted over underneath. How do I prep this wall to be painted to look half way decent? Wallpaper covers a multitude of sins but I really want to paint instead of paper again.

Most professional painters don't strip wallpaper any more. They use 1 or 2 coats of primer, spray on texture and then paint the color. You can rent a "texture sprayer" at a big box home improvement store. This was done to my house before I bought it. Hope this helps.
Not in our area. Our pros,strip wallpaper , no texture used, considered for use on low cost housing only. Smooth walls are easier to maintain, patch and repair if needed. Once textured you can't go back, don't do it.
Get a paper tiger, run it over the painted paler and use Dif wallpaper remover with hot water and spray on with bug sprayer. Be patient, it will be worth it in the end.
I would remove the wallpaper. If you find that the walls underneath are bad. Fill the holes and paper over with the textured paper you can buy that its purpose is to paint over it. Then in years to come you only have to paint over. Yes it will take longer, and you are paying out more, but in the long term it will be worth it
Yes Anaglypta is great, made to be painted. Just prep walls correctly first. The easiest is to prime 2x with oil based primer. Don't have to be neat. Anything can go over oil based primer in future.
