How do I clean this greasy dirt off of acoustical tiles?

I want to paint the ceiling in my kitchen but there is greasy dirt over the stove. How do I clean it without ruining the tile?
Wash the area with TSP (available at hardware and paint stores), rinse, let dry well before painting.
Meg,. What kind of tile is it ? Looks like they interlocking. What are they made of ? Your picture is good, but I don't know what the answer is to your question. Aloha!

replace it with Sheetrock
TSP or Krud Kutter. Be gentle, use a sponge. Those tiles can flake. Don't forget to prime and paint.
I painted many tile like that....used a paint roller .. Worked great....you will need to clean the grease but painting is easy.
