How do I get rid of ants in my kitchen?

If the ants are very tiny the only way to truly get rid of them is to get an exterminator. They will spray outside and chauk gel around countertops and where they entered. We have tried all the homemade remedies with no results. The tiny ants are the hardest to get rid of.

And the biggest ant control myth of all?

As long as you kill or remove the ants you can see, your problem is solved.

Unfortunately, where you see a few ants, more will likely follow. If you have or have had an ant infestation in your home, you know you need a remedy that will control the population, not just kill a handful of ants here and there.

Cindy, I use to have a house keeping business years ago,&one of my clients had an infestation of tiny red ants in her kitchen near the back door. She asked if I could get rid of the ants. I'm not in the bug killing business, but I thought I'd at least TRY. I saw the ants had a trail from back door to kitchen wood baseboard. I sprayed orange oil furniture polish across door threshold & on outdoor concrete step close to door, plus along kitchen baseboard. Then wiped it off floor to prevent any slippery spots. Plus I told my client to dig up the "Lilies of the valley" plants outside her back door & replant them away from house. That's where I noticed the ants had numerous mounds. I wasn't sure this technique would work, but it did. The ants were repelled by the oil, & the plants being away from back door stopped the ants from entering back door. It's worth a try. I hope it works for you 😊

Is it possible that the ants are seeking moisture? I didn't notice any location for you.

If this is possible, you'll need to also increase air circulation via exhaust fans, using only linens that have not been laundered in fabric softener (which reduces absorption), and laundering more often. Plantings up against your home can provide an access means for ants.

You may have a small leak which has not made itself yet visible, but is present in older home's plumbing.

Spraying the exterior perimeter of your home may help.

I use packaged cornbread mix that says it is sweetened and put it where they are. They will take it to the mound, everyone will eat it and die, they can't digest the cornmeal, but will take it because it is sweetened. Little goes a long way.

Medicated powder from the Dollar Tree. It has eucalyptus in it...menthol...I puff it around my homes foundation..and inside under my birdcages in the cracks under moldings. Work immediately and they never come back. I do this at the first sign of ants..in one day..GONE. The powder is in a very large container and lasts quite awhile too !! And smells great !

Ants are so weird. One time I found them inside the freezer in the garage!! What would possess them to go inside a freezer only to die? They must have sent signals back or something ~ there were no ant trails only a freezer full of dead ants. Hasn't happened since.
