How to change an old hanging light fixture?

by Paula S.

I have old dark glass hanging light pendants that I thought I would replace the glass with something more clear for more light but because they're so old there are no replacements I can find as the opening is very small versus the new larger opening where the light bulb meets the electrical piece/wiring. can ask anybody give me any suggestions where to find replacing or what I could possibly do to fix this problem?

    Hi Paula ,

Would you consider changing the light fixture?

You can buy new pendants at lowes or home depot. they also sell more shades, not sure the size of the opening.

Are you looking for bulbs to put in your pendents, or new glass pendants? Our pendents take chandelier type bulbs....the screw part is smaller than a regular light bulb. Can you take one of your glass pendants to a lamp store to see if they have a recommendation, if you are wanting new glass pendants, I see what you are saying but maybe the lamp store would have a suggestion.

The homecenters have basic replacements. Your best bet would be to go to a lamp store or online searching for vintage lamp shades. Can't tell by the photo but it looks like they may be lipless lamp shades. Here is one site.
