What and when do you feed apple trees?

I have two Apple trees I don't know what kind they are but their not sweet and tasty. Can you make a suggestion?

    They are probably cooking apples for pies and jellies. Go to your local nursery and buy Jobe's Ferlilizer sticks for fruit trees. Make a hole in the ground and put into the root system. Water, water, water. They are the easiest and best bang for the buck!

    Feed the tree some sugar put it deep into the ground mix with miracle soil.

    Yes, as Mona said, take a apple to your local nursery to see if they can identify it. Have you seen it in a supermarket and maybe compare what you have with what is there?

    There are types of apples that are just not sweet-Granny Smith's come to mind, these are more for baking/preserves, rather than eating.

    Another thought that came to mind is they are a version of crabapples, which are usually very tart and small but I have seen them the size of a golf ball.
