How do I prepare the soil if I decide to use above ground pots for gardening? Do I need to add anything to the soil?

Every year I mix in fresh (good quality! I've learned not to skimp -- for best results!) soil in with the existing soil. Be sure to have good drainage for the pots. (I used broken terra cotta, etc near the bottom of the pot... then cover with soil.)

I always mix in a bag of store bought potting soil in with the dirt from my own backyard. Mix up the dirt & potting soil in a wheel barrow, about 2/3 dirt to 1/3 potting soil, then fill your pots w/it. Have fun :)

I think you should be fine with a good potting soil.
