Water drips down. I always put a dry paper towel below any suspected leak. If the paper get wet, I know I have a leak. Usually just a tightening of a nut.

Using a dry tissue, check each fitting separately starting at the highest one.Being sure to check the results after each fitting so you will know when/if you find a wet one.work down through each fitting until all are eliminated or until the wet one is found. If you find that one of the fittings is in fact leaking and you have the tool and skill to tighten, make sure to turn the water off first, and bleed off the pressure to that section of piping. This will preclude a mess if a pipe were to break when you try to tighten it.If you suspect you have a water leak somewhere in your house, but don't know for sure, make sure all water is off in the house then go out to your water meter, open the lid and watch the very small three cornered fixture in your meter. That little deal will turn if any water is going through,no matter how insignificant.
