Start a simple flower bed we live in fl but one mile from Alabama...just had a new porch built and it needs some attention. I don't have a lot of time so I would like some idea of plants or flowers that don't take a lot of time and maybe even a cool idea on how to arrange the plants/flowers

Gardens always look nice. They can offer some privacy for whoever is on the porch as well as color. Here is a link with a few ideas: https://blog.gardenloversclub.com/gardens/front-porch-ideas/

If you want something practical as well as nice looking a dry creek bed could be put on top of a french drain to keep water from becoming a problem. I like the simple stack (third on on the list). https://www.backyardboss.net/50-super-easy-dry-creek-landscaping-ideas-you-can-make/

You are going to be in some serious heat for the bulk of the year. Consider succulents that have some color with them. They are low maintenance and should do well. I am in Birmingham and planted some that survived this crazy cold weather with several days below freezing. They will need sun.

Another thought is to add some color with paint or signage like welcome.

I love the hanging wind spinner, they add a bit of whimsy as well.

Yes, avoid planting into the soil next to the porch, so that watering the porch accidentally and accidental erosion don’t age your new porch, prematurely.

Flower boxes can be put on the porch itself or on the ground and I would line them with heavy plastic and put pots in them with spagnum moss in between. Some pots could have styrofoam in them for sticking in the “yard Art” and seasonal decor.

Flower boxes can also be painted or stained to match part of the color scheme.
