Yes, especially if you have acid loving plants like azaleas, camellias, corn, ,carrots, corn, & cucumbers among others.
I always used it in my compost pile first.
I use it both ways; directly in garden helps loosen compacted soil and if you make thick ring around base of plants smaller sized snails & slugs will not cross to get/eat plants ;and in compost bin
