Get rid of the Ground Moles in the yard? Tried pellets all over yard., tried rolling the yard. Do not have alot extra money, so what would be a good home remeady to use. We have dogs and would not want something that may harm them. Thanks for all your help.

I have had some pretty good luck using Marigold pods. When the marigolds blooms have starting drying up and you pick them off take them and put down in the run where the moles are at. I just use my foot to mash them in the run. Apparently, moles do not like the smell of the blooms (they do stink somewhat). You will have to repeat this if it rains, etc.

Setting mole traps seem to be the safest for your pets. Goes into the tunnels. Someone suggested pouring pine sol in the tunnel, don't know. Our dog got ours, loved catching them. All other solutions seem to use poison which I would avoid.

I have a problem with them as well. I noticed after all of the rain last season that there didn't seem as many in my yard. I was thinking of sticking a garden hose in any future holes and trying to drown or flood them out. Just an idea.

It just may be the only answer. I remember my Grandfather saying that's what he did. I do not know what else to do.

  • Hi Michele,

I keep a small box of instant mashed potatoes on hand and sprinkle a few spoonfuls where i think they travel. I do this at night since most are nocturnal. After they eat, the flakes expand in the stomach and well they die.

NOTE: If you have pets keep these flakes out of their reach.
