How do I "DIY" shine the outside of my motorhome?

I have a lovely custom made older model Affinity Country Coach. I'm the third owner and it has been very well cared for and maintained. The original owner had beveled mirrors mounted tastefully and virtually everywhere; it's quite stunning. The kitchen and bathroom have Italian blue marble flooring. The white washed heavy wood cabinetry and accents--literally everything about this motorhome--hooked me from the minute I saw it.

The only concern I have is the peeling shiny coat on the outside. It will be very expensive to have this removed professionally and re-shined. I've heard about using floor wax after washing. But have no idea how to remove the old, peeling, professional shine. It's coming off in sheets from being at the beach in the sun and salt water air. It's comical to observe flying off when it's in motion if I'm tagging behind in my minivan. Environmentally it's a problem. I'd love it if someone had any ideas to share from experience re what seems to remove safely the outer old coat of dull shine. Thanks for any of your suggestions!!

I’ve not tried this, maybe pressure wash it to remove the old peeling coat first?....and using car wax would make more sense than floor wax. Then maybe polyurethane...several coats ..would help seal it. Sounds really nice inside ! Good luck with the outside. 😃

Try mineral spirits. It will remove wax and usually does not harm a paint job. I'd call an auto paint shop to see what they use as a clear coat. Maybe you can use that. If you choose to wax, use,car wax not floor wax.

I would pose this question to Trailer Life magazine or to a few of the RV forums online to see what others have done.

This sounds like the clear coat the auto dealerships used to convince gullible new car owners that they needed to be applied on top of the factory clear coat. And it always peeled off in big pieces. The factory clear coat was baked on with UV Ovens inside the factory. The dealerships can’t do that, but we ought to be able to find out what they use.

Those car owners had to have it stripped at a body shop.

I would look at auto detailing supply stores and see what products can help with the desired new finish.

After the previous owners poured all that $ into that motorcoach, I wouldn’t cheap out on re-doing this is there’s a chance it will fail.

Geez is the just wax peeling or the clearcoat?RV your age should be all fiberglass is it Gel coated? first need to figure out what is "peeling off" here's bunch of banter about similar RV http://www.rvforum.net/SMF_forum/index.php?topic=25711.0 this is great site for RV owners( I just sold my 38ft RV) RVs (fiberglass finishes)are not the same as dealing with Auto finishes more like a boat finish car wax won't hold up and I would not pressure wash it until you find out if it's just clear coat, sheets of wax? or pieces of the gel coat coming off(it could damage fiberglass) Good Luck
