We have some camellia's in our yard. It is so nice to see the blooms brighten up the yard in the winter. But be aware they are slow growers. About a foot per year max. Ours were even slower at about 6 inches per year. Some grow up to 12 feet tall and about as wide too. There are smaller camellia's (ours are dwarf but about 5 feet tall and 5 feet wide).
They are often used as foundation plantings, borders, hedges, and specimen plants. Camellias can often be spotted as anchoring plants; their large size and dark green foliage provide structure, balance, and height to an overall garden design.
Depends on the scale of the house, placement and if the exposure is conducive for the camellia plant to thrive and grow to maturity. If that criteria has been met, it is a fantastic idea. Love camellias!
Another thing to consider is the shape camellias become. Are you looking for something that you'll want to keep a specific shape, something you'll have to prune?
Be careful when you start planting. Look at the final size and no matter how small your new plant is give it all the growing room it will need away from your home. We all see the new potted plant and it looks so puny stuck out in the yard and shift it closer to the house. Once that tree or shrub starts to mature it becomes a problem.
