What is the best flowering plant for a container?

I want to get a beautiful flowering plant that is perennial that I can pot and have a lot of color, can you give advice on one?

  • What zone are you in Lisa? What exposure do you have? Sun? Shade? What works for me in zone 9 may not thrive in your area. More info please!

    I am not sure that you can find a perennial plant to put in a pot that will flower all summer. I am interested in find out if there is one!

    Impatiens and geraniums will flower all summer. I bring mine in for the winter and put in the window and have flowers all winter as well.

    Hi Lisa - I don't think I'd recommend a perennial if you want flowers to bloom all summer. Also, depending what gardening zone you are in, a perennial plant may not over winter in a pot. Some great annuals for pots in the sun are calibrachoa, wave petunias, lantana (may be a perennial in your zone), bidens, etc. etc. Here's an article on Container Gardening that may give you some more ideas. You might want to go to a garden center in your area and ask what would work for you. Good luck!

    you don't say where you live? if it's shade or sun? but there are lots Coneflowers,Coreopsis,Daylilies,Rudebekia,Geranium ‘Rozanne’,Astilbe(mixed shade/sun),Salvia,Phlox,Gillardia,Roses
