When do I plant roses & daisies in zone 7?

I ordered 3 rose bushes & 4 Shasta daisy bushes which I was told would be shipped in April. They were shipped in Feb. & arrived in early March. I can't plant them yet because of cold temps, snow, & frozen ground. What do I do with these plants to keep them living till it is warm enough to plant them in Zone 7( central Maryland).

  • First I would call the company you ordered them from. See what they suggest. Plus do they guarantee their plants??? Will they replace the plants if they perish?

Next, do you have a place to store them safely? They will need light and water and the Shastas may not take a freeze if young and tender.

Call or visit your local nursery to get more information for your area and project. They are great help.

Definitely call them that's a huge mistake on their part..... are they all bare root? or in small pots(Daisies) Roses are actually hardier than the daisies because the roots are thicker.Roses--As long as plenty of moist packing surrounds the roots, you can store the plants in a cool (not freezing) place, such as a garage or basement, for a week to ten days (even longer if you have some empty refrigerator space). It's a long way to go til after Mothers Day to get them outside. What company is it? Should have guarantee to cover loss?? Reshipping you plants at right time frame &/or even refunding money without you reshipping/returning ones you already received, reputable companies operate like this. You can try to put in pots and care for them in sunny windows inside. Get the daisies in pots for sure-----bare root Leucanthemum(Shasta Daisies) should be kept dry and can usually stay inside the bags of peat moss until ready to plant, keeping it in a cool, dry location out of direct sunlight(refrigerator). If there is condensation showing on the inside of the bag then open the bag to let them dry out a little, but plant soon, typically within a couple days.Call them ASAP Good Luck
