If I apply stain to laminate/particle board, will a sealant keep it from rubbing off?

I don't want to strip existing stain. Can I stain over with darker stain?
I'm not sure if it will hold well. I would sand the surface lightly and then use a gel stain. If it's not adhering well you could use a clear spray sealer.
You can try it! But, I would also recommend gel stain and sealing with a poly. .:)

Ah..gel stain..makes so much sense..Thanks for your advice.
There are several ways to seal your stained wood. The most durable are oil-based polyurethanes, but the most recent water-based ones are great options. The wipe-on version is very practical but I prefer to apply the regular canned one with a sponge brush.
