As long as your dog isn't a digger or doesn't tear around the yard, you could try stepables. They have some that are dog friendly. I haven't used them yet, but plan on putting some in on a side that doesn't get much sun and is a pain to cut.

  • Look into Xeriscaping! Very popular in my area. I have some gravel on several places on my property. I purchased a tumbled style pea gravel so as not to hurt the dogs paws if it gets in between their toes.

Or opt for an alternative ground cover like sedums, creeping thyme, even mint, but that could creep into your flower beds and is extremely invasive.

I have an area that I have done in white clover. Love it! Never needs mowing and soft and fluffy under foot and nice for the dogs to roll around in.
