Hi Nancy. You will need to improvise the pallet so that it will hold soil. Maybe that could be done with weed fabric. Put as much soil as you can in the pallet because strawberry plants send off shoots that will root in place. So more soil is needed for that. Depending what kind of strawberry plants you have, some will not produce the first season. And others require more time than that. Good luck Nancy. Home grown strawberries are delicious.
Pallets for strawberry plants are cute, but that's about all. Strawberry plants give off runners so you don't have to buy new plants every year. Pallets don't have enough room for that. They also have to be watered more frequently as the soil dries out more quickly.
Use June bearing plants for one large crop of strawberries. For a long growing season, but not as many berries overall, use ever bearing plants. my strawberry bed is 3 ft by 20 feet planted with everbearing and is 5 years old. I've never had to add new plants due to the runners.
