Peel the shiny outer layer off. Wet the stuck on paper part thoroughly. You want it drippy. Give it a few minutes to soak in. Use a plastic scraper to scrape the glued on layer off. Good luck!

You can rent a wallpaper steamer or use a heat gun to soften the glue.

  • Steaming has always been my preferred method.

Any tool rental will have what you need. Be patient, this is not a quick process.

If you put 1/4 of a bottle of fabric softner mixed with water in a spray bottle and spray the wallpaper it comes off a lot faster than plain water. Let it sit for a couple of minutes and it peels right off, use a flat scraper to help.

When removing wallpaper patience is key! Use a paper tiger. It can be bought in any paint/wallpaper store. Ask how to use it if you're unfamiliar. Spray walls with warm water and wait, and wait, and wait. Remember, patience. If when you try to peel or scrape paper it won't come up in big sheets, then soak the paper some more and wait, and wait, and wait.

If the above method doesn't excite you rent a wallpaper steamer. It is the fastest and best method of removing wallpaper.

    Been there, done that!

Scoring the paper is helpful as well. Since at least the 70's, strippable wall paper has been an option, and that peels right off, starting at an edge or corner. Adding Dawn dish liquid to the spray water helps too.
