This isn't terribly exciting, but I need some advice on re-finishing this tub drain. It is funky! For some reason the tub refinishers we hired didn't address it. Thanks!

We had a similar issue recently - the tub and shower faucets are oil rubbed bronze - and I bought a small can of oil based "oil rubbed bronze" by rustoleum and it looks great. If you are using it a lot it may chip off and you'll have to paint again - but I suppose you could also seal it with something.... We did this about a year ago in both the tub and the shower drains. We never use the bathtub so it's fine - but the shower I can see is chipping a bit.

Samantha, You could always try to remove the entire strainer basket. If the tub is older the basket may be tough to remove. But if your tub is relatively new (say only 10-15 years old) you could buy a drain wrench and replace the whole thing. One of my recent blog posts dealt with performing this exact action to fix a plumbing leak. Here's the link http://www.homerepairtutor.com/bathtub-drain-repair/

Be careful if you just had the tub refinished...the epoxy might not react well with the above suggestions. Call BACK the refinished and ask the, to replace the drain. You can get a new one for not a lot of $ and let them put it in for you. This way your new tub job won't be harmed
