How do I keep my pond clean?

I have a 250 gallon pond in front of my kitchen window. I keep a removable filter that feeds a small waterfall. When it starts getting warmer and the algae begins to bloom I put an ultraviolet light into the hose feeding the filter and the small waterfall. My problem is it seems like I’m constantly removing and cleaning the filt er (it contains two sheets of foamy material). I have about 10 large goldfish (not Koi). Is the some other filter system I should use and who would I contact?Sincerely,ellaro1952@gmail.com

When you kill the algae you are also killing beneficial bacteria that is needed to keep it cleaner-- If you add an algaecide, it will kill off bacteria (ref 3). Chemicals for adjusting pH will also harm your bacterial herd. If you recycle your pond water through a UV system you will kill bacteria.here's good article https://www.gardenmyths.com/beneficial-pond-bacteria-waste-money/

I made my own filter using the filling from old pillows, it helped cleaned my pond beautifully, hate using chemicals.
