It’s very dirty.

  • Clean It! How did it get that dirty? Doesn't anyone tidy up after meals? A good rule to try to live by would be to clean up the kitchen after each meal or at least after dinner. Which includes the stove and a quick wipe of the walls or cabinets too.

Pull out your owners manual or look it up on line on the manufacturers website. I have a gas stove and use plain old white vinegar. For stuck on bits I use a paste of baking soda and vinegar. I soak the grates on an as needed basis.

I've taken the grates off, put in sink and sprayed oven cleaner, then wipes what I could off top before spraying oven cleaner on top of my stove. Works great and comes out shiny as brand new. Do not use steal wool like sos or brillo pads. I use O'cedar sponges. the yellow with green. They don't scratch. Other colors scratch so I would be careful on that.

I agree with Naomi. Let your stove cool down while you are cleaning up the dishes from your table and then immediately clean with dish liquid and hot water to remove grease splashes and stains. You can also make a paste with baking soda and vinegar and try that. Use a non scratch pot scrubber if you have to and then wipe with clear vinegar water to remove the soap residue and it will shine for you. If you do not have a glass top, then remove the elements and place in hot water with baking soda and dish liquid and let soak for a while. If you have a stove that does not have self clean, then try the Easy Off Fume Free oven cleaner which goes on a cold oven and works great. Remove the racks and place on newspaper outside and spray with the oven cleaner.
