How do you fix a lawn that has turned marshy?

We had regular grass growing in our back yard but now a portion of it has turned real soft & with marshy moss. We live on the Oregon coast but live in the town of Coos Bay and not right next to the beach. What might have caused this & how do we fix it?

  • Coos Bay is awesome! Such a beautiful area, you are so lucky. Poor drainage could be the cause. Does it pool in that area after rain or a storm? Area just might need to be regraded to provide better drainage. Can you post a Photo?

I am highly suspicious of a geological change underground. With all the earthquakes and underground rivers and water pools will change. Call the EPA to see if they will evaluate this situation.

I don't think it's that serious of a problem but I will keep it in mind, thank you!

Hi laurel, did you figure out the problem? If not, I think it's likely a low spot that you can fill with top soil then reseed.
