It all depends on where you live Mike. Different parts of the country have different rules, laws or an unspoken understanding of what is or is not acceptable. I don't poison anything if I can help it. What if that rabbit hops off and a coyote, bear or fox feeds on It? Now you are poisoning them too. In some areas they shoot them. If you eat them, ok. They sell rabbit in restaurants, yet what do they do with the fur and feet? Toss It? Hmm? I say if you are going to kill an animal - use every last bit of it, including feet and hide. Now this is strictly my point of view.
I don't know of any body that eats rats, but I love barbequed bunny. the fur and feet get sold to fur merchants. rabbit skin is used to line mittens. the feet are sold for key fobs.
Mike, here in the Midwest USA, the rabbits are good eating, right tasty in fact, and have a designated hunting/ trapping season. The hide with the fur is used to make earmuffs. The bunnies can have a litter about every other month. They are not usually defensive and prefer to hide. I’ve raised rabbits for a 4h project and to put lean meat on the table. You don’t want your protein poisoned.
I read this from Gma Kirk: A farmer gave me a gross recipe for repellent...but it works. cup or two of urine, tablespoons of crushed garlic, and cayenne pepper, two eggs in a gallon jug, shake well, fill rest of the way with water. Cap and let age a week. Then you drizzle small stream around the perimeter of whatever you want to keep them from eating.
