Judy, if all else fails turn them into something else and enjoy yourself. I rip and tear old jeans then sew these pieces into coats, jackets, dog clothes..and the list goes on and on. I beg people to save and send me their old jeans instead of throwing them into land fills. I wash and rip and tear and sew, keeping these old hands busy and I love to see the smiles on the faces of the recipients. Enjoy yourself...don't repair ...restyle!
Depending on the type of repair the jeans need, you may be able to sew them if you have a heavy-duty sewing machine. I have a quilting machine which is used to going through many layers of fabric, and so works very well. Use a denim or upholstery needle. I've had excellent success this way. Also, I really enjoy appliquing colorful print fabrics if I have a hole in my jeans that needs patching. You can use a satin stitch or embroidery stitch around the edge of the patch. It makes your jeans one-of-a-kind, and very YOU. I've gotten tons of compliments on this kind of patching for decades. I guess it never goes out of style.
