So to get this project started you will need to take a trip to your local dollar store, or you may have some of these items on hand. A large sun bonnet or hat whatever you like to call it. The dollar store has a variety of colors to choose from. This green happens to be one of my favorite colors that's why I chose it. Next you will want to select a color scheme for your flowers and a bit of greenery. I also purchased some self adhesive velcro dots .
Spring Bonnet Bouquet For Your Front Door
So raise your hand if you are sick of winter. I am totally done with this season! Goodbye, Sayonara, Au re-voir, Adios, See ya later and don't let the door hit you on the way out!! It has been a brutal winter here in Ontario Canada, my mother constantly reminds me I live in Canada what do I expect, we get cold weather and snow. Well I say enough already please bring on the warm weather and sun. So to brighten things up I thought I would bring some spring to myself as it sure doesn't look like it will be happening anytime soon with the snow squall we are having as I type this. I was inspired by this idea by a hat I seen at the dollar store. Keep reading for this cool spring idea that is sure to put a smile on your face and bring a little spring into your home!
Taking my hat and a piece of foam board I traced around the hat. You can use cardboard also. The foam board can be purchased at the Dollar store, I had a left over piece on hand. Once traced cut out with a pair of scissors.
So here it is cut out.
Before I attached the hat to the foam board I took the hat and using a black marker outlined on the bump where I would be cutting out a piece of the hat.
Using a sharp pair of scissors I cut along the line I drew on my hat. Once finished turn the hat over so that the inside is facing up. At this point I took my velcro dots and started placing them around the hat.
So this is what it should look like. You may opt to use glue but it will seep through the tiny holes in the hat and I do not know how well it will adhere to the foam board. Now it is time to attach the hat to the circle I cut out earlier. Lay onto the foam board and press to secure in place.
Here it is securely attached to the foam board. At this point you can trim off any excess board that may be visible before moving on to the next step.
This is flower foam. Craft stores do carry half sphere shaped ones or you can cut to fit like I did with this one. It doesn't have to be a perfect fit as you will secure it with a hot glue gun.
So once I was satisfied with the shape and fit of the foam I took my hot glue gun and glued the foam to the back of the foam board and around the opening of the hat.
Now the fun begins. I started by taking my greenery and using wire cutters cut pieces of it and bent it to hang down. There is no wrong or right way to do this, this is just used as a filler so use as much or as little as you want. Once this part is complete cut your flowers and start adding to your foam. Remember if you don't like how the flowers are placed remove and start over til you get the look you like.
So here it is almost finished. Doesn't just looking at it brighten your mood? It certainly does mine.
As this is going to hang on my door, I need something on the back of it so that it can hang. Using a piece of ribbon, I just happened to have some yellow I cut a piece and secured it to the back with my hot glue gun.
Here it is with ribbon attached.
Project Spring bonnet door bouquet complete! I love how this turned out. It was so simple and easy to make I hope you will give it a try. I plan on heading back to my Dollar store and getting another hat in a different color and making another one.
