Not really that good for wood, use Old English dark tone polish and scratch cover-up. Works great.

Cooking oils go rancid. I use Old English polish (dark for dark wood, light for light wood).
There are also furniture repair pens.

i use crayon that matches the wood or as close as you can get. I allow it to sit while I do something else. When I go back I use my pledge furniture polish apply a spray and use an old rag and buff the crayon lightly!! It will usually last for a long while. Or try shoe polish dye which is hard to find and apply it allow to set and then buff it with furniture polish. Best of luck!!
