Live edge tables are pretty on trend right now, and I'm feeling really proud of our recent project, so keep reading. I made this DIY live edge desk, paired with powder-coated black legs, and complete with a matching keyboard slide!

Let me show you how I did it.

Beautiful slab of wood

1. Clean, sand, and fill

We started off with this beautiful wood slab.

Sanded and cleaned wood slab

We then cleaned it, sanded it down and filled the holes with epoxy.

Sealing the desktop with oil

2. Seal with oil

I then used Odie's oil to seal it up. This kept its natural look and allowed the wood grain to shine through.

Attaching the table legs to the desk

3. Attach the table legs

We decided to use these black powder-coated metal legs. I love how they look in contrast to the natural wood.

How to build a live edge desk

Once we attached the legs, it was time to add in the best feature- the sliding keyboard tray.

Sliding keyboard hardware

4. Add the sliding keyboard hardware & drawer

We purchased sliding keyboard hardware for the drawer.

Sweetwood slab drawer

And then I added a sweetwood slab as the drawer. We made sure to match the hardware on the underside of the desk to the legs.

Absolutely Beautiful! Natural elements with metal what a wonderful combination. This would be a piece to use in a very modern/contemporary style home/office. Consider going commercial, it's that good!

I bet it's so much harder than it looks... But thanks so much for sharing this. It's my favorite type of desk for a home office.
