Best solution is install grab bars or have them installed. Another option is a walk in tub or have your existing tub converted to a walk in tub.
We just went through this with my elderly mother. The grab bars are a good idea if the person can walk, quite often joints are worn out or they are different degrees of contraction and can't do this.
Converting a tub is not cheap, neither are walk in tubs.
There are seats that attach to the side of the tub, the person sits on it and with help raise the feet an legs over and into the tub while pivoting on the seat, imagine a lazy Susan type system. Then the person can be positioned onto a bath stool.
Just reverse when done.
Other than that maybe look into renting a Hoyer lift.
Another thought would be to contact a local agency for the elderly or go to a social worker, perhaps connected to assisted living.
Best to you.
thanks guys, but a walk in tub is too expensive and he has a shower seat that he uses. Just wondering about a way to lower him into a bath. he cannot stand for long time and legs give out so sitting and showering seems to work but he really misses sitting in tub of water. We have considered a pulley system that could lower and raise him from the water with maybe a seat like a swing. We are still brainstorming. Grab bars are placed too awkward for him. He has an arm that was hurt as a child and cannot raise it over his head. uses other arm to help move it when he uses utensils for eating.
Any thing you do has to meet ADA requirements and senior care standards. Take Redcatcec advise. Anything other that doesn't meet certain standards can be deemed dangerous and abusive. Be careful what you do. You don't want him to get hurt.
