They really aren't that different, maybe just a bit taller. Make your island the size you need with the top of your choosing. Place where you need it.

Are you saying that you want to use kitchen cabinets in the dining room? Islands can be either stationary or moveable, which are you looking for and do you want it sticking out in the middle of the room or against the wall?
You could just find an island that fits in the space you are looking to add it to. If you want it higher than a typical server/buffet, check the dimensions and make sure it is the height you want!
