Could you give us more information as to the end look you want ie: formal, shady glen, casual entertaining, etc. How large is your yard? Want to spend a lot of money or not?

check with city/county codes re: fences. some areas put them on the lot line, others have to be a few inches off the lot line. about that flooding...do you have rain gutters and down spouts? if so get more sections to make it longer and dig a "swell" a smallish depression that looks like one big puddle, it will slowly release the excess water back into the ground.

Have fence companies come out and give quotes for different styles of fences, ask them for their recommendations. We have all wood, the last wind storm that came through ruined our gates, chain link would have weathered the storms. Different regions for different fence material. Good luck !

Try the horizontal fences, or some corrugated metal? Very modern/different/retro. Go around neighborhoods parks... look for plants that look like they are doing very well, for your area. Pick ideas on the plants you love from that. Take pictures and ask questions of the nursery people. Careful on trees, make sure they don’t spread their roots too much, or have fruit that drop too much... Designate the areas for what you want from your yard. Dining area, covered area, fire pit, star gazing/sunbathing. Consider decorative grasses, colorful pottery.
