How do you clean a white formal polyester gown?

Hmmm something just doesn't seem right to me. I have sequins on some of my sun dresses and I wash those. I also have a few old formals left and those were all handled by my dry cleaner successfully. Guess you just have to spot clean it and hope for the best. Bet she didn't know that when she purchased the gown. For me it would have been a red flag, anything that can't be cleaned in some fashion would stop me from purchasing the garment. How much time before the event? Maybe consider shopping for something else? How about visiting vintage or second hand stores and reworking a piece if anyone in the family sews?
