Gather them as soon as they fall, let the outer shells dry in the sunlight or in the house where they won’t get rained on. When the outer shells have dried and opened up, the inner shells need to dry a couple of weeks or longer, then they are ready to be cracked open so you can “pick” the pecan meat out for eating. Hi Nita, sounds like pecan scab, More than likely, the black spots you see on pecan leaves and shucks are due to pecan scab. Symptoms of the disease appear as small, dark lesions on the leaves, twigs and shucks. As the disease progresses, the lesions can expand and grow together. Hope this link helps you out.
