We just got double-pane windows that are supposed to be wonderful at insulation. It does no good when the vinyl frame and wood surrounding it does not insulate well. How can I insulate?

Can they be caulked? Or do you mean there is a space behind trim? You can pry off wood trim and stuff insulation in the opening, put back on then caulk.

Yep, double pane Energy Star windows can save you about $100 to $400 dollars a year in energy costs. Whoever installed the windows should have insulated any gaps around the window frames before the trim was installed. Either stuffing fiberglass insulation or spray foam insulation. Most installers us low expanding spray foam insulation. There should be some warranty. Call the installation company and have them correct the it. If it's past the warranty you can remove the wood trim and fill in any gaps around the window with Great Stuff Door and Window spray foam insulation in the blue can.. Then just replace the trim.

Caulk every crack and seam. We just did the same and as I was painting the trim, I could feel a bit of cold air as the wind blew. But we knew that we still had to caulk outside around the windows.
