Ugly Trunk Into Coffee Table

Why did I buy an ugly trunk? I have no idea. I didn't need one and wasn't looking for one, but I bought one. The sad thing is, I didn't just buy one ugly trunk - I bought two of them. I recall seeing them in a thrift store. One had a broken lock and the other was locked shut with no key to open it, so the manager offered me a 2 for 1 deal. I certainly didn't need 2 ugly trunks, but I'm a sucker for a good deal, and I fell for it!
I brought them home, and stacked them along a wall in my entryway, where they've remained for over a year. They sort of blended in with the color in that room, but I never intended to make them permanent decor in that room, because I never intended them anywhere at all - I just didn't know where else to go with them.
I decided I would paint the ugly away, and turn one into a coffee table.
After painting it with homemade chalk paint (directions @ Knick of Time), I distressed parts of the metal parts, so it would have a timeworn look.
To protect the new look, I waxed and buffed it.

I've repainted my mom's old trunk and it looks alot like this, except I didn't add legs to it. Love that idea! Could you please tell me how you attached the legs? Thanks!

Can I use any kind of paint on this? I bought a trunk like at a garage sale two years ago. Love this idea.

Found a metal Army foot trunk curbside. You didn’t post how to put legs on your trunk.
