Introduce ladybugs they will stay as long as there is shelter and they eat the avfids (spelt wrong I think sorry)

I mixed up a spray bottle of dawn dish soap and water (just enough so it was a sudsy spray). Sprayed my rose bushes and the bugs stopped eating my leaves! Good luck!

First, you need to identify the bug. Ladybugs will help control the aphids, but they won't do anything for the Japanese beetles! If those are the bugs you have, you can try using Sevin as a control. If you don't want to spray the bushes, you can switch to growing Old Garden Roses that bloom only in the spring (some varieties will bloom again in the fall). That way, you aren't fighting the beetles. Or, switch from growing roses to some other flower that the beetles aren't attracted to, such as hydrangea and Rose of Sharon. There are some others - look around your neighborhood to see what's blooming while your roses are getting eaten up, and that's what you should be planting!
