Can I stain a darker richer color of stain over an ugly lighter color?

My porches have an ugly looking (to me) stain color in a light brownish yellowish grayish color. I So Want to make this color a richer color of stain. Can you stain over stain?

    Yes, but consider there’s polyurethane on top of the stain.

    That will need to be sanded down with 150-200 grit and then wiped down with a damp rag and then dollar store alcohol.

    Then I would use a all-in-one product that is stain and top coat, both.

    Absolutely Amber! Sand lightly first, then apply the stain. You might want to do a little test spot to determine whether the stain is oil based or not so you can use the correct product

    Thanks so much for y’all input. I figured I might have to sand, however I don’t think there is a polyurethane on this. The lady we bought the house and property from didn’t really know and had someone just paint a stain on. I have the old van so I take a look at it to be sure. I’m grateful for yalls help!!

    Try Gel Stain! It's made to sit on top of an existing finish. Then seal with an outdoor grade poly.
