  • Hi Sharon! The first step is to sand off as much of the rust as you can. Then clean and hose off the furniture. Let it dry. It’s hard to get every bit of rust off so I like using Rust-Oleum Rust Converter as a primer. Then give your furniture a couple coats of Rust-Oleum 2X which also has a built-in primer with the paint.

If the tubing or frame of the lawn furniture is aluminum a piece of crumbled up foil will help to get the rust off. When you get as much rust as possible off give the frame a nice coat of spray paint. Like Tricia we use Rustoleum and then a light coat or two of a poly spray to help water proof it.

I sure brush the rust, clean it well and then spray paint with Rustoleum.

Have someone blast the rust off, Then spray car primer on them, The best paint for them is car paint. The clear coat will hold up longer then other paint. I did this to mine over 6 years ago and they still look great.

Thank u everyone for the help. I was afraid those would be the answers. So much to do, so little time. But so glad to see the spring here and sunshine with birds chirping.
