I wouldn't. It is difficult to remove once painted over and you would be creating a future problem. Better to remove the wallpaper.

    Yes you can.

If you decide to do this, Remember to check all wallpaper seams. Including the ceiling seams. If any seams have started to lift, use the right kind of glue to seal the seams down again and secure them prior to painting.

Wipe down the walls with a damp cloth for clean surface. You will need to use a good quality paint to cover the paper. Use 2 coats of paints for the best coverage.

Use a flat or satin finish paint, no glossy finish paints. The flatter the paint finish the less it shows up any irregularities or seams form the wallpaper.

I agree with Cynthia. I've lived in houses where the previous owner did that, and it was a nightmare where seams loosened, etc. Also, if you try to paint over it, there's the possibility the paper will bubble up from the paint, then you'll have a bigger mess on your hands.

Best to remove the wallpaper. The moisture in the paint can cause it to bubble and seams separate. Also a pain to remove in the future.

Idid that once a long time ago and it never looked exactly right...the worse part is that i knew it was still there and my eye would go to any little spot that wasnt perfect....best to remove the paper before painting...worth it in the long run

I would have had to re drywall because it was put onto drywall, not painted, and had bonded for 25 years. I used some spackleing for rough lines or edges and looks great. Depends on the type of wallpaper and condition of wall.
